This is how to do a Cafe' Racer

Umm, Ben . . . To call either bike a genuine cafe´ might be a slap in the face to cafe´ builders. I see nothing more than a seat change, decal removal, fairing install, and aftermarket exhaust.1979 XS1100F

I subtract points on this one because I don't like the side covers hanging there with no airbox and the seat not following the line. That part looks unfinished.
It's not a cafe racer, but the builder has a good eye for customizing a Special or Euro Sport, IMHO.Marty (in Mississippi)

Now versus then
I think there is a big difference between the café bikes of the 60/70/80 and a lot of the so called café bikes now seen..
Back in the day it was about removing dead weight and performance mods.
as an example..it was not uncommon to get a skinny fiberglass roadrace style front fender,a quarter turn throttle a smallish head and tail light junk the centerstand and turnsignals, add a fork brace and or steering dampener, bump type seat, drilling of discs and anything else that didn't contain oil, low handlebars removal of any grabrails or bracketry ..maybe have the rims relaced to aluminimum instead of steel and maybe remove the back pegs to name a few things .......The modern versions in a lot of cases are more of the idea to take some portly turd that most of us wouldn't trust over 30 miles an hour and to hacksaw the fenders,turn the stock handlebars upside down take a piece of 1/2 inch plywood stretch some vinyl over it and call it a seat.but leave the big gaudy gauges and monstorous taillight .
