  • Buell Blast

I picked up a 2004 Buell Blast for my wife to learn on as she just went through the state safety course and officially has her endorsement.

I have an easy pull ramp for the clutch on its way and will probably get a new clutch cable to make it a nice easy pull. I also need to adjust the shift lever down a bit. I have already gone through the clutch adjustment and either see an improvement or this bike is teaching me how to ride it.

I rode the Buell a couple of days and I will tell you, getting back on my XJ11 the shifting was a dream in comparison. I'm not sure there's anything wrong with the transmission, but it is a clunky Harley transmission and I think I'm asking more from the bike than what it really wants to give. I rode a 2008 very low mileage Buell at a dealer before I picked up this older one and it had similar clunky characteristics.

Specifically, it seems that occasionally I don't quite get the bike all the way into 1st (best guess) and get a decent clunk at takeoff from a stop. I'll probably open it up and check the shift forks and gears this winter, but I'm thinking parts might not be easy to come by.

Anyone else have one of these or have ridden one and had similar observations?
