  • 1973 Jawa Californina 350

For those who were wondering, this is the bike that's in my signature. I thought it was a '63, but it's an '73. My father and I bought it almost 12 years ago and it ran when we got it, but it has just sat since then, I just throw some oil down the jug every once in a while, hopefully it's not locked up. The 350cc two stroke was less than potent as far as I can remember, but maybe when I'm done with my XS, I'll bring her up to the shop and give her some love. Front fender and side covers are taken off to prevent damage, they are in great shape.

One day I'll pull it out and snap a few more pictures.

You might be pleasantly surprised how much fun a light weight two stroke is.
Power to wieght ratio of two strokes can be an eye opener

That rear tire poking into the picture on the left is my 2 stroke KTM, which is very wheelie happy.

From what I read, the Jawa didn't make tremendous power, but was more durable than just about any other two-stroke.

Oh yes, one of the many bikes where if I had a time machine and a telephone I'd call myself and say "Hey Mr. Stupid, don't sell it."
Does yours have the combo kickstart/gearshift pedal?

Yes it does, I think that's one of the coolest things about the bike. The reverse shift pattern got me the first few times, kept killing it in second, then realized first was up.

My first bike was an early 80s version of the Jawa 350. They are actually pretty fast bikes. It did about 60 in second gear. It had a semi auto transmission, meaning you could change gears, even starting without pulling in the clutch. You could use the clutch by holding your foot on the shift lever. The kickstarter was also the same lever, had to push it in and flip it around to the back to use it. It was a fun bike.

For all you two-stroke experts: Can you identify this Kawasaki engine?

I am guessing it is a 2-stroke due to the oil in the Tobasco Sauce bottle clamped to the frame.

Bike is up for auction in Florence, CO, no title, no plate, a homebuilt job, but engine runs. Current bid is $50.00. Link to auction on Govdeals.com is

Looks to be an early 70's 2-stroke KX250 motor........the era when Kaway went 'Mean Green'. The motors made good power.....Just Kaways chassis and suspensions left alot to be desired. BTW,interesting McGyver way of keeping the oil injection instead of just pre-mixing.

                      wicked

Would have to agree with motoman....early 70's Kawi...Like a lot of Kawasaki's of that time....Wicked handling...not much power down low..when it came on the pipe...wheelies,wheelspin and what direction was I trying to go? Fun but a little scary..
