82 Kawasaki csr750 or kz750 m1 need a little help

I have a buddy of mines 82 kz750 m1 or csr 750 as it was badged. We are getting white smoke when you let off the throttle while riding. Almost forgot it a two not four cylinder. I sonic cleaned the carbs ( bike sat for a while), changed the oil, cleaned the tank, new fuel line, and new spark plugs. Did a compression test and both cylinders were at 160 psi. We have 11.59 volts at the coils. Everything is stock except holes were drilled in the end of the exhaust. The bike runs and idles perfect. He has a slight oil leak at his valve cover but we have a new one to replace it. While I have the valve cover off I will check the valve clearances. I'm thinking it might be a valve seal but the bike only has 15000 miles. I need some help trying to figure out where this smoke is coming from.
And for those that know me, no I am not chopping the bike up we are keeping it completely stock.

Valve clearances

So I checked the valve clearances today and the spec. Is between 0.005 and 0.010. I got left intake 0.004, right intake 0.0025, left exhaust 0.003, and right exhaust 0.003. Could having the gap too tight cause the smoke?

If it's oil smoke then not really, no, but that's a beautiful bike -- score!


Which pipe smokes on deceleration? Left? Right? Both?

Does it smoke a little during cold start? Left pipe? Right? Both? Parked on the centerstand or on the sidestand for a few hours or overnight? That'd be bad valve stem seals.

Otherwise it's probably coked up oil control rings.

Wrong numbers

The clearance numbers were wrong earlier I was looking at inches not mm. When I looked at the mm all were within spec except one that was .102 and spec is .05 to .10. But the bike mostly smokes out of the right side and no smoke at start up. The plug on the right side had some oil on it. The smoking seems to be worse the warmer the engine gets. And it mainly seems to do it while riding.

Pull the carburetors, then look at the intake valve to see if there is "some oil on it" too or if it looks more like the Exxon Valdez has been steaming through the engine.

White smoke ... are you sure it's oil and no one snuck a radiator on it when you weren't looking?

Is there any way a bunch of water got into the air box and it's getting sucked into the hoses that feed the exhaust reed valves in the valve cover for the KCAS (Kawasaki Clean Air System)?

Yeah, trying to be optimistic; poor bike's only got 15K on it unless the odometer flipped.

MY XS1100 after sitting for a week or longer puffs a little white smoke upon start up- thru one side. It is the valve seals. Its simply age is why they leak. Rubber just hardens over time.

Odometer is correct. And the mileage is why I don't think it's valve seals unless someone dogged the hell out of it. I had also read the condensation can get in the system from sitting ( sat for at least a year) but my buddy has put over 100 miles on it since he got it, if it was condensation it should be gone by now I would think.
