If there is a leak in the diaphram it's easy (and cheap) to fix with Yamabond 5.

      My diaphragms

Noticed on my carb slide/diaphragm assembly on the 79 I'm rebuilding that 3 of the slides will not lift up more than a 1/8 inch or so there not dirty or seized in anyway and move a bitup n down the only assembly that lifts all the way up is the #1 carb....a previous owner may have changed clip positions and reassembled the wrong way, unsure until I ttake them apart.......keep my eyes open for Sabre carbs by the way.

Thanks for the tip Geezer, I will keep it in mind. We have decided not to repair this one. there is a tear very close to the slide, and a wear marks all the way around it. I is roten in the spot it flexes the most.
Let me know what you find with your slides not moving up & down Bruce.

I won't argue with your diagnosis of the slide, but I've repaired many diaphragms that had small rotten spots. The Yamabond 5 fills in the damaged spot and the repair is almost as good as new. Yamabond 5 is as flexible as the material the diaphragm is made out of. The only thing I didn't mention is to completely degrease the diaphragm before applying the Yamabond. This is only common sense but it doesn’t hurt to mention.

I only had one good slide for my 80 Mongrel and about 7 bad ones. I repaired them all and I figured I'd pick the best looking 3 out of the batch of repaired ones. I ended up using all repaired slides and one looked as good as the others.
