I would try new plugs. I had that problem with an Xs 750 and an xs11 two years ago. I had new plugs and they fouled. I spent a whole weekend messing with both of them. They would pop and fart here and there, but not start. I changed plugs and they ran. I don't know if I got bad gas or what, but neither would run until I replaced the plugs. I probably changed out the gas during the whole ordeal, but can't remember for sure. I bet it's a spark issue.80 SG XS1100

So what year is it?
Does it have Points(76-77) or Electronic Ignition(78/79)?
The Rotor is keyed, you might re-check it as it may have gotten on the crankshaft and not on the pin correctly.
