I have a '73(?) Kawi F7 175 with a bit of an issue. At the bottom end, it is powerful and runs well. Right around 3800 RPM, maybe 40, it seems to hit a wall. Even in neutral it will barely continue to rev, often in fact slowly losing RPM even at full throttle. Smoke belches out the back and it will occasionally stall, but will fire right back up without trouble on the first kick or two. The PO has already jetted the main down from 105 to 100, I raised the needle clip up one notch to lean it out, and the condition still exists. I am beginning to think it is an ignition problem, but I know very little about CDI type ignitions. Can anyone confirm this as a possibility? Any other theories? Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like there's some over-fueling thru the main circuit. May wanna pull that carb and main jet and remove the emulsion tube, making sure those little holes are all open with a tooth-pic and carb spray cleaner. Not quite as critical as on our XS Mikunis, but might wanna check the float setting also.81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

Since the carb looked difficult to remove due to bolt placement, I was hoping to avoid having to pull it. Also, since the bike felt so strong through the lower rpm ranges, I had discarded the thought of the plug being the culprit. Since I had nothing to lose, I pulled it just a few minutes ago, since it's my lunch hour and the only other thing to do was eat lunch (lunch can wait...). It seemed pretty carbon fouled, maybe 40% of the surface was covered. I sprayed it off, scrubbed it a little with a brush, and threw it back in. I gained about 1,000 rpm from doing that. I leaned out the air screw just a bit, and it seems much better. It took a few passes through the gear range, but seems to run just fine now. I have to get back to work a few minutes ago, so I can't keep playing, but later tonight I will mess with it again and see if I can get consistent results. I have read in other places that the float settings can be an issue, so if it comes down to it I can tear down and clean the carb too. I was kinda hoping for an electrical issue, since I know how to fix those... Thanks for the advice, sorry for the long post. I will let you know what I find after tonight.80 XS11
