XV1100 Virago

    XV1100 Virago

    I just had a neighbor drop off an 86 1100 Virago for me to get running for him. It sat for a few years after the PO laid it down and was too scared to ride it after that. It has the typical " I tried to fix it myself but couldn't" plastic trash bag full of parts.

    I'll be starting with the carbs that currently reside in their own bag...........in pieces.

    Hoping some of you Virago owners out there can give me a hand. I am already a member of the Virago Tech Forums but I have difficulty navigating that site.

    I looked up the specs on this bike and it amazes me that anyone would even want one. The 1100 V twin runs 30 less HP than the XS in line 1100 4.

    For touring Greg. Those get 50+ mpg because they are 60hp instead of 90hp.

      It better, the tank looks like it only holds about 2 gallons.

        You can be 4' 11" tall and flat foot that thing at the traffic light. I had to fold up like a pretzel to ride it. I love the way the big Virago feels when you twist the throttle. I get that!

          I've been doing some research on it and it has a fuel pump, an electric switch between main and reserve fuel and a separate tank (it looks like) for the reserve.

          This is going to be a challenge.

          Your right about the height Marty. It BEGS for forward controls so a long legged person can stretch out.

            Mount some highway pegs on those front forks and you get power assisted steering too!

              I was thinking along those lines. With my legs and as small as that bike is, the highway pegs go at the front axle. It sure is fun to twist the throttle on that thing!

                Hmmmmm........just took the carbs apart to go through them and discovered the jet needles and the diaphragm slide springs are missing. No throttle twisting until I round some of those up.

                  I got a 82 xv 750 so a little different, but any questions I might try to answer. ..what carbs does it have? Hitachi?

                    Hitachi HSC40. I've pretty much got it figured out but I'm missing the jet needles and the diaphragm springs.

                        Good news is that many people use only one of those. ..making manifold and feeding both cylinders with one carb ,so you only need one. ..lol

                          I've got the carbs all back together except for the diaphragm/slide springs. I'm having some difficulty locating a set for these Hitachi HCS40's.
