  • Triumph Speedmaster

    Went on a ride the other day with a few others.
    Swapped the old 79 special for someones Triumph Speedmaster.(late model maybe 2012).
    HELL!!!! Are these things nice to ride!
    Responsive power.
    Nice handling.
    Comfortable seating.
    Can't fault em one up riding.
    On the other side of the swap.......
    The guy who rode my 79 Special said...."he wanted it" but wouldn't get rid of the Triumph for it.
    The upright riding position with the "buckhorn" handlebars made him feel too "windswept".
    Fair enough too! I say. They are pretty silly handlebars.

    The modern Triumphs are fascinating.
    They dont disappear in the sea of V twins.
    They look vintage thus great!
    There is a TREMENDOUS aftermarket to go fast dress up or mod- Tracker, bobber ect
    They sound great

    Reliable and nothing like their bikes from 40 years ago. I would like to eventually replace my beloved XS650 with a modern Triumph.

      negative with the short range thinking.
      That's not replace, that's carefully crate up and save until it's worth a fortune.
      O for a time machine and a telephone to say that to my young foolish self who sold off his 1937 KSS Velocette for the price of a box of beer.
      BTW, bought an NOS 1984 XS650 Heritage Special in 1986.
      Still got it.

        Never get rid of one bike for another! Just keep adding. I have a Triumph America and like my xs's they will never be sold!

          Saw a "for sale ad" the other day for a Triumph with a 2.3L! I remember Mustangs having a 4cyl that big. Too much engine for a bike, or is there such a thing?

            Can there be too much engine? Ask the Boss Hoss guys.
            There can certainly be not enough engine,
            I had my first driving lessons in a Standard Eight.
            4 wheels, 4 doors, 4 seats and a 4 cylinder 800cc engine.
            It'd do an indicated 60mph if you floored it and waited long enough.

              That's the one! And, yeah, didn't think about the "Hoss" line-up. I guess you could throw the Dodge Tomahawk in the mix as well, although I'm not sure how much one would consider that being a "true" motorcycle.
