Scored a XJ550 this weekend. Easy to make a runner. PO had the carbs apart but bagged and tagged everything. Can't find a float height/drop spec anywhere. Service manual says to use the "clear tube" method to determine float levels. Looks like a PIA but if that's the only way, then that's the way I will do it. All the carbs are still off the bike for the famous "triple clean". Gonna be a "trainer" bike for the son in law.
    When a 10 isn't enough, get a 11. 80g Hardbagger

The clear tube method is the only way to get them set correctly. If you need some expert help on that bike (people who ride and work on them all the time) check out XJBikes.com bigfitz52 is the resident guru on them.

      From the XJ550RH Manual
      Check your PM's

I would find one that was close before removing the carbs. Once opened up check the float height on it and you have a close starting point for the rest.
