    Getting Old

XSive, the older you get the better you was! At least that is what I am finding. Still love to crank it up in the twisties but definitely try to be as smooth as possible. Get a great deal of satisfaction of doing it all; smmooootthly. Of course you have only been around since 69. Ive been around since 33 , so, "The older I get the better I was"
I can remember buying a new Suzuki Katana 1100 in 82 when they first came out. Over the winter I put 37mm smooth bores on it, a Yash pipe and modified the head. Come spring I got an opportunity to let it out. Speedo went to 260km hr on the bike. It shot passed that no trouble and was still accelerating like crazy.
Scared the s--t out of me. A week later I sold it less the carbs and pipe which I sold separately to different people. The decision to sell it likely is why I'm still around. Of course I also had an 82 CBX B to play with.

Part of getting old is knowing what to be afraid of. As kids we blindly did dangerous stuff not knowing what the hell we were doing.

I ride the XS11 because I'm a big guy and I need a big bike. It has far more power than I use 99.9% of the time.

In order to become older and wiser, one must first be young and stupid.

How true, for if we were XSively stupid, we would not have the opportunity to become older.

                    Older..... Nah!

Sticker on the side of my 1.1 Sport reads

                    "Older.. Smoother... Cheaper to Insure"

I know what Chevy is saying tho'.... last easter an old aquaintance turned up on a Gixer 1100.

Straight wide (thats W - I - D - E) bars and no fairing.... Probably the most modern bike I've ever ridden..... wow... I can see why the brakes are so good on those things.

I want one - but it would kill me.

Spent all that afternoon grinning and picking flies from my teeth... what a monster.

XS and other bikes of the era turn me on more.... mainly as you actually have to be pretty good to ride them hard - and I enjoy honing my skill.

Hands up how many out there have nice stories of rides where it all goes right and you can really turn up the pace..... even out cornering some crotch rocket "new boy" who can't ride the damn thing. My last victim on the XS11 was a Ducati... over here in the UK the licence plates are coded with the year of the bike.... so as he ate my dust he could see what an antique (in his eyes) I was riding.... ho ho wot fun.

Keep it between the hedges.... but that doesn't mean ride it like your grandmother!

(I think my Grandmother had a sidecar anyway )

I find no greater satisfaction than coming down from the mountains, annoyed with the slow pace some jerkface is moving at on his brand new crotch rocket, moving around to pass, he guns it, I smile, drop a gear, shoot past him with his jaw hitting his gas tank. Dangit that's fun. Also fun when you do it to a brand new harley, with a brand new rider. You can always tell by the brand new everything. Shiny, loud, but I have to say, slo-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-w, and boy do they get mad when they pull up to the nearest gas station, and you're fueled, paid, finishing your soda, strapping on your helmet, and continuing their humiliation. But then again, mAybe that's what makes them so against waving to other riders.
Nothing like a ride on a straight 4.

yeah, I think I've read a few. But I do have to mention a local here in Boise, known as "Harley Bob". Great guy, and his eyes bulge when he sees me parked outside a pub. the first time he saw mine he came in asking everyone "Who owns that XS Eleven out there!!?!!?!?" It's nice to know that even a guy called "Harley Bob" appreciates the power, beauty, grace, genius, and nostalgia of an original superbike.

pretty funny. I suppose I should change the sig to only broken 3 bones after having been thrown off of it.
