  • XS850 Cafe Tank ID

I am trying to find this tank to use on my xs1100, but so far have not had any communication from the builder. It looks like a one off tank, but I can't be sure from this video.

Would an XS850 tank fit on a XS1100? It looks like it has the same double backbone as the 11.

Backbones are wider on the 11. the 850 tank would be too narrow.

The tank in the final bike is either a heavily modified stock tank or a one off custom.

      Hi Spencer,
like Nate sez, an XS850 tank's tunnel is too effin' narrow to fit an XS11.
Is your tank missing or too wrecked to use that you need a replacement?
What will drop straight on and give you an extra gallon of gas capacity is a tank off an XS1100 Standard.
Needs a complete tank, the gas cap and petcocks don't interchange.
Gotta swap in the Special's thermistor fuel level sender, the Standard's rheostat sender don't work the Special's red warning light.

        Hi

I spoke to this guy once. Here is a sight he referred me to.

Also, the tank is a Benjie's tank.

My tank is fine (as far as I know) I was just going for the look of that bike. Thanks for the links. They don't have the tank listed on that website, so I have to decide whether to try to make a replica of that tank, or go with something close enough. The hard part is finding a tank with a wide enough tunnel, so it is looking more promising to do a one off.

          It looks relatively easy... http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/fo...=145975&page=1

Compared to brain surgery that is.

If you look at the beginning f the video, there is a base in place of a tank, and then the tank. He built, or had the tank built. You could start with the tank you have, cut and weld, or go with a fiberglass tank. They will both work, but you will need one built for the XS1100.
I'm about 45 miles away, with a TIG, but I just don't have a lot of time. I keep trying to work on my stuff, and other bikes get in the way....

Yeah, I've been reading about making a fiberglass tank and I think that that is the direction that I will go once I am ready to complete the project. But in the mean time I'll have to stick with the stock tank.
