Finally got the move to Michigan done, and finally getting back in the swing of things!
So I've been threatening to do this on here for awhile. I finally rounded up the cash, and ordered my parts over Christmas. This fall, I had been in to the HD dealer in Bozeman, MT, with which I am quite friendly, and I concepted hard bagging my Heritage Softail, but in a manner more in keeping with it's East LA look, and not in an old man touring sort of way. We came up with some stretched bags, that matched the 39" Cholo pipes I had installed, and a wide, stretched duckbill fender to match the bags. I got it all here earlier this week. The bags are a direct bolt on--there is an adapter kit for that. Here is a prelim of how the whole thing will set up:
As it was:
AS it will be:
The problem was the fender. This whole setup was actually intended for the Road King chassis, which is wider, and spaced front-to-back differently than the softail. You can see this in how the fender fits in this pic:
Way too high, and way to far rearward. So I sucked up the consequences of chopping a $900 Arlen Ness fender, and began to hack away at it. I cut it to fit in between the frame rails, and then cut 4" off the front. Then I mocked up and glassed in the correct profile on the front:
Now it fits much better.
Now I am contouring the whole thing with some filler, and can get on with the paintwork. Not much so far, but its a start...
