  • Bandit repairs/mods/improvements about done.

I have finally finshed repairing my '97 Bandit that I wrestled to the ground in NC last year.

Damage estimate was pretty stiff and Insurance Company paid me well to fix her up.

I was able to fix some stuff myself, buy some stuff used and got the rest at Ron Ayres online and saved a lot of dealer price. With the money I saved I was able to make some improvements.

Dumped the 4 pot Nissin calipers and upgraded to 6 pot Tokico's from newer Bandit, also installed Stainless Goodridge lines while I was there.

Also installed a brand new Wileyco stainless steel exhaust can and mid-pipe I got on Ebay for $130.

This is not really an improvement but if Mike hart reads this I want him to know I cleaned my chain!!

Anyway the valves are adjusted, oil changed, New tires front and rear (B'stone 010F/020R), new battery, etc, etc and my total costs for everything were under $1500. This is about half what insurance estimate (just for damages) was.

Now I just need it to stop snowing so i can take it out for a ride!!

Clean your chain?!? You go through them so fast, why bother?

Did the ins co cut you a check for 3K? I see exotic case guards in your future....

What does the new can sound like? Holeshot/Yosh/D&D or what?

They cut me a check for around $3350, $3600 - $250 deductable. My biggest expense was the new fuel tank at $470. New can is loud, sounds a lot like yours but I have only run it in the garage. Case guards are the only thing left, $250 is a lot of $$, I need to ride the Bandit and the Tuono for a while and see if I need them both or if I can let the Bandit go. If I keep the Bandit, I will replace the guards, if not I will just off them to sell it.

BTW, I found the rattle in my mid-pipe.

      Inner liner came loose.

That chain has 7000 miles on it right now and none of it babied.....thing is like new with no tight or loose spots, I checked every link when I cleaned it. I has been adjusted 3 - 4 times. I think the higher quality chain will help with premature wear.

Did you find a chain yet or are you gonna run that wadded up clunker til the pins wear through?

Got it out for a ride today (40F) and it still rips....knew I had to take it easy (new tires and lots of sand/salt on road) but somehow lofted the front wheel passing a trash truck. I really didn't even try. Ok now I gotta get to work on the Nighthawk (or the wife will kill me), then on to the Triumph.

I'll get the new chain & sprockets soon, haven't found a compelling price online, not even Ron Ayers makes it worth the shipping from way over there. Next time I see a screamin' deal I'll get spares.

Going to CA again Apr 10 or so, hope I get it done before then!

Imagestation links are being really sluggish here...even tho Comcast has doubled our d-load speed to 3Mb...
