  • 78 KZ650 Camshaft installation trouble

Gents, I had to split the cylinders on my 78 KZ650 B2A due to compression trouble. Upon cleaning up the valves and pistons I reinstalled the cylinders with new gaskets. The valves appear to be seated well. But, I am unable to install both camshafts because there isn't enough slack in the cam chain. When I try to install the second cam there is not enough room in the chain.

The tensioner is not installed and the guides seem to be installed correctly. The chain moves freely without any kinks. I have the timing set to TDC. The lifters are installed and the shims are the under-bucket type. I even tried installing the bearing caps on the Exhaust side to give more slack but that did not pan out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
