  • Mystery no more!

Those that may have seen my bike thread or my questions about my XS11 carbs may remember the mystery carbs that came on my bike and were quickly swapped out for stock.

It took a while but I finally figured them out and the news is good.

It turns out they are Mikuni VM29mm Smoothbore carbs. Evidently fairly rare and highly sought after racing carbs.

I spent the last two days dismantling and cleaning them very well. I got them put back together last night and was hoping for some advice on what to sell them for.

I saw some ended ebay listings and other parts websites offering them for sale anywhere from $550 to $850. The high end obviously being top condition (ultra-sonic cleaning, fully restored, painted ect.).

Mine are cleaned and all internal workings are in great condition except one small dent in a float. It could also use new gaskets. Also, the outside isnt cosmetically perfect. Mine however, are set up with an accelerator pump. Evidently they are very hard to come by.

With all this in mind can anyone give me a good starting price on these?

That would be great. Almost what I paid for my 11 that they came on lol. Thinking about soda blasting the bodies and polishing the caps and bowls. May fetch a bit more.

You can prolly get that dent out by holding it in boiling water for a couple minutes. Nice carbs...

Tried the boil when I cleaned them but no luck. There was a second float with a dent and that one did boil out.
