That's quite a moped. If you run 42 MPH without stopping you can do 1,020 miles in 24 hrs. If you run 51 MPH non-stop you can do it in 20 hrs. Can mopeds run that fast? Can anyone run ON one that fast? For that long? WOW!

Thanks for doing the math for me, I was going to figure it out last night but got side tracked. I find it really hard to believe this could be done, mopeds aren't that fast and you have to stop once in a while. I have done some checking and the Iron Butt's documentation for certification is pretty extensive and they are supposed to verify a lot of what is submitted. Perhaps he got a tow from an XS11?

I remember trying to do a 100 mile day on my Moped when I was 16 years old and it d@%& near killed me!

IIRC, I quit after about 80 miles or so, but my buddy who was accompanying me on his 10 speed bicycle went on and got to the 100 mile mark.

My moped would do 32 mph on the flat with no headwind only if I crouched down onto the handlebars. I once got it to 45 mph, crouched over the bars, on the longest, steepest hill in the Cowichan valley. Now THAT was a white-knuckle experience!

Hey Ken, THAT'S where the Specials got their gas tanks...

I'd like to see that moped. AND I'd like to see that 1,000 mile downhill that moped ran.

Actually, Marty, that moped is out in my garden shed, right across from my rubbermaid tubs of spare XS11 parts. It was stored in the back yard at the house my folks lived in till Dad retired. Unfortunately, when they left the house and cleaned out the basement, a couple of guards got lost. I've got enough of it to maybe do a restoration one day when I run out of things to do. First thing will be unseizing the motor, just like I had to do when I first got it from my Uncle about 35 years ago.

I've done many many cenury (100 mile) rides on my bicycle. My fastest time was 4½ hours. I still have that bike (anyone wanna buy it?)

A stock Tomos would go around 150 to 160 miles on a tank full, you would also have to add oil to the oil tank about the same time.I think it could be done but that it would be very hard to do.Well I know somebody who was very sore for a couple of days and had nerves of steel.People in cars and trucks just don`t see them and also not least of all dogs like to chase them.My hats off to him.
