    Hi Folks

Here's a few pix of my XJR1300 after a few appearance tweaks..... I added a seat fairing (made here in the UK) which covers up the pillion seat when it's not in use. It's supposed to cut down turbulence but that's a feeble excuse for putting it on because it just looks nice......

I've added two 'window' covers which are made here in the UK. One on the ignition side and one on the clutch. They look pretty cool in operation! They're modified OEM covers which are then highly polished. The windows are Makrolon

Also, wavy brake discs...... they do make a difference to braking.

    Like it?

    Hate it?

          Nice !

I wish Yamaha would ship them to the N American line-up . I would be a buyer for sure. Same for the Suzuki GSX1400 and the big Kawasaki Zephyr while they were still being made.

I also liked the first generation Yamaha MT-01 and all the trinkets Yamaha had on their accessory list . Camshafts , fairing/cowling and exhaust. N. America never got that one either.

Not rubbing it in but this model of Yamaha is very fast, with immense torque. One of the Dyno tests is to accelerate from 20mph in 5th (top) gear, right through to 145mph. The engine doesn't struggle at all. It's possible to do 30mph in 5th and accelerate without changing down. The chain is no trouble whatsoever. I've adjusted it slightly only once in 2,000 miles. I did minor tweaks... Dyno jet carb upgrade, advanced ignition timing by 4 degrees, put unrestricted inlet manifolds on, K&N freeflow air filter, removed a few breathing obstructions/snorkel, Iridium plugs. Dry weight is 232kg, so it's light compared to its predecessor, the XS1100.

I'm very pleased with it. It really is a fast, powerful bike with nice handling and big fat rear tyre. It feels safe to ride.

There's not much else to do to the bike. I've looked into gearing changes with the sprockets but don't fancy it. One thing I may do is to fit a 'jack-up' kit...basically two alloy blocks, that lift the bike by 30mm. This reduces the wheelbase slightly and makes for better steering supposedly. I'd like to fit Galespeed forged aluminium wheels but....they cost a lot of money... about $2,500 a pair. Bit steep but apparently, they have not much mass in the rims and so there's less gyroscope going on. Mmm...better keep buying my lottery ticket and hope for the best on that one......

Dont make it TOO pretty James, you'll not want to ride for fear of it getting dirty. Mines coming along on the performance front, but i'm leaving the looks alone at this stage.

Do you know, I understand what you mean! I only cleaned the bike for the pix on the forum. It was filthy before and I've just done my 2,000th mile. No, this bike is getting/gets used every day and there's no way I'm going to turn it into a beauty queen... definitely not! I learned my lesson on the XS1100.

Met a fellow who brought 7 bikes over here to near where rasputin and I live, and all I know is he was from England somewhere. I got carried away looking at his 1958 Norton the he had all done up cafe style and it was a beautiful job, but again getting side tracked what I want to know is how much you paid for your XJR1300 and then I can figure out if I can afford to import one. Then I can get it an out of country inspection because here bikes don't get blocked the same way non imported cars do. So even though Yamaha didn't send them here I can maybe get one and then mail order my parts from over sea's as it seem's faster from your house to my mail box than from Yamaha to they're dealerships.

FWIW Rooster, I paid 7k NZD (5.5k USD) for mine last year, but its a 2000 model, so 4 years older than James's.

I want one. Why doesn't Yamaha ship these to the USA. I think they would sell a few or maybe a lot more.

If you have a look on http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Cars-Motor...l?_nkw=xjr1300 you'll find oads of them for sale at about $3,000 upwards... some less. I paid $6000 for mine. It's 8 years old but had done only 1,800 miles when I bought it. It looked like a new bike, so I was happy to pay a bit nore. Same year, nice condition and say 20,000 miles on the clock and they cost less..

They're a lot of bike for the money, IMO. I am very happy with mine.... last of the carb versions with 4 into 2 exhaust. After 2005, they went to 4 into 1 and fuel injection....
