  • Ye Olde KZ1000 Police Bike

Here's some pics of the KZ1000 Police Bike
I bought outta Phoenix a couple of yrs ago that was a Commander's
bike on the Glendale Police Dept, hence it was super-low miles
and no road rash from being heavily used in the service of the Dept
Evidentely the Commander was tall like me and had the solo saddle built-up for his tall frame, which fit me to a "T"
Last pic is when I went to Phoenix to pick it up in the condition it was in at the time with all ligts in place
It still had the siren and the red & blue lenses in the fairing which I replaced with clear lenses and hooked-up as running lights
Was a lotta fun to pull-up behind a cager and let them think "the Man" was hot on their tail, until I pulled-up along side of them and they viewed the Joker sticker on the gas tank where the Glendale PD logo had been

Very nice! I love those old police bikes. So, did it still have the wiring to make the red/blue lights flash?

It had everything 'cept the Motorola radio...and when I changed the red & blue lenses on the fairing, I hooked them up to use as running lights. It also had the Whalen strobe light bar on the rear that I now wished I'd kept off of it and I could've mounted on the lower cowl of my GL1800 for a nice running light at the bottom...didn't think of it 'til the guy was getting on it to ride off into the sunset after he had purchased it...I had detailed that thing to almost "MINT" condition and needless to say, he was one happy camper with the purchase (he was going to use it for escort services for funerals, parades, and such)

Pretty much what you'd expect from a full dress KZ1000, nothing to brag about, mostly a work horse... And with the dated suspension, it handled like a Mack truck on steroids...I guess I've gotten spoiled to the much advanced and evolved suspensions thru the decades since these bikes were near the top of the heap of UJM some 3 decades ago...All in all it did what it was suppose to without much fanfare, but it still had that unmistakeable sound of a Kawa in-line four which has always been music to my ears...

I do like those! I really do want to find a police bike that isn't a Harley.

              You gotta build it Nate!

Just start by buying a siren, it will be the most fun I think...I haven't found the right one, but a crank windup one would be awesome

Heck, if you wanna go ghetto style, just get a PA system and you can make it any sound you want (even the international sounds) and you can give the perp instructions on how to exit the vehicle all the while leading into telling them to do the "hokey pokie"...that would have be good for a laugh or two and well worth posting on U-Tube

BigDick has a siren on his XS11. Wound it up in the parking lot of IHOP in Stillwater at the first Banned Camp.

                    Yup, we got EVERYONE'S attention.

yes impersonating a police office is always funny, just ask James Stewart or Caryl Chessman http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caryl_Chessman there is a reason the cops seem to get so pissy about such stuff
where are we going, and why are we in this hand basket?
