  • I bought a 2012 FJR1300

I went ahead and took the plunge into the new bike world.
Everyone keeps asking me if Im going to sell my 79SF. In short I tell them "NO!"
But now I have a dilemma. I have 2 XS1100's and now the FJR. I dont have room for all 3. I must sell my project 78 XS11.
Sadly, my SF is going to go dormant for parts and general maintenance Ive been putting off so I had a functioning bike.

You're just going to have to get a bigger garage! Jat, does your house have a dining room? Do you use it, or is it full of useless furniture? You know where I'm going with this....

I will get some pics tomorrow. Its all sparkly in the sun

I don't have a garage. In fact, the shed I built as my man cave has the 78 sitting smack in the middle of the room. I cant get to my tools, my toys, my hobby junk, anything. It consumes every ounce of "spare" space I have. The only optional room in my house has been commandeered by the Mrs. as her "Mom cave". I couldn't bring a bike into the house anyhow. The XS11 couldn't make it through the passage ways. Ive already measured.

Now you did it. Be prepared for MANY MANY miles and smiles.

            Join the FJR clubs yet?

This one is a little conservative:

This one is a little less er, structured:

Lots of tips websites, suggesting how to spend yer cash on accessories. I recommend a radar detector first.

Man those bikes are sweet . My only question is about the riding position. Does it smash your (junk) into the tank when riding?

Not if you are taller than 5'. I ride 2 up all the time, no problem.

How tall do you have to be to ride that thing comfortable, without bouncing side to side on your toes?

I know a lady lives in NYS who rides her own FJR, and she is 4' 11"' tall. Two remarkable things about her, you will NEVER catch her on a twisty road, and sometimes she needs to have someone catch her when she stops. Most of the time if the stopping area is fairly flat she can manage on her tippy toes.

Kouba makes suspension links that when installed can either raise or lower the rear of the bike as needed. She just refuses to lower it. My FJR has a 3/4" shorter link which raises the rear about 1 1/2".

I rode about 100 miles round trip today. Most on highway at about 80mph. I have a few minor issues that can and will be addressed.
My throttle hand goes numb. I'm slightly leaning forward and the pressure is too much. I have Heli risers on order.
The seat is comfortable (compare to my XS11) but the wide leg position and pegs that are a little back from where Id like them, so my knees and hips are a little kinked.
Solution: I ordered "highway pegs" to be mounted more forward. They're simple and just forward enough to give my legs a break.

I'm 6' tall and the tank doesn't crush my "junk". It has plenty of room for even the most well equipped rider.

I love this bike. It handles like an agile fighter jet and I enjoy the high tech stuff on the bike (Ambient air temperature is nice to know as well as miles per gallon average).
