I adjusted the clutch exactly like the manual stated. It has the right free play and disengages properly, yet it travels back about half way before the clutch engages. But it doesn't slip. Is there a new cluutch in the not too distant future? BTW it's a Kawasaki 454 LTD with a wet clutch.

Sounds like the cable more so than the clutch. If it is not slipping just takes more pull on the handle, that would be either adjustment or cable.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

Clutch cable.
DGXSER,
I discovered that the adjustment screw at the clutch handle was only two threads from it's limit to het the free play correct. (ie; cable stretched about as far as it would go) I was able to spread the free play out enough to allow the clutch to engage better and still be able to disengage properly until I get the new clutch cable that I ordered today. Thanks for your input.1986 Kawasaki 454 LTD,

clutch
rpgoerlich,
Re: adjusting the other end. Yeah, that's the first adjustment made. I got the new cable, installed and adjusted just fine. But even so there is not a heck of adjustment left which pretty much means I am looking at a new clutch. Maybe it's time I replaced the old 21 year machine. But my 86 Kaw 454 LTD has been the best liked bike I have ever owned.1986 Kawasaki 454 LTD,
