  • Black rubber plugs in carbs -- 1980 Suzuki GS550

Hi guys, Bought this bike cheaply ($125.00) and went thru carbs yesterday. They were filthy but jets were not in bad shape. The smaller jets have a rubber plug in the hole (with the carb bank upside down on the bench) that you take out to get to the jet. They are in bad shape. What do they do? Should they be replaced? I can't remember ever seeing these before. Thoughts?

Sounds like something similar that is found in some of the xs11 carbs during the 80 model year. For the xs they are there to block the pilot jet from sucking gas straight from the float bowl forcing it to draw from the main jet cross over passage. in the case of the XS they are necessary.

We did the carbs on my "new" 80' XS1100 2 weeks ago but I don't remember them. My brother-in-law did most of the carb work so maybe I just wasn't paying attention

Really liked the site, PartsnMore, and marked in favorites for future use. Didn't need anything else right now and could not overcome the shipping $$$ for the package so bought on Ebay and saved myself a little.
