  • Toro Tractor 56125

Got a free barn find tractor. Not as good as a bike but; might make more riding time if I can get the lawn done sooner.

It has a 7HP Tecumseh motor and it only has 95 pounds of compression.
Do small motors usually have less it has been sitting for 2 years may be a factor.
Also anyone know were to get a repair manual? I can't even find one to buy.

    TIA

Did you try the Ebscohost small engine repair for a manual? I see a few listed, not the model 56125 though.

If the mower has been setting for a long time, pull the plug and put an ounce or two of 30 W oil in the hole. Pull the starter rope a few times, and then check the compression again.
Most of the used small engines I have messed with didn't have that good of compression, and they still ran.
Also, rope starters usually don't spin the engines fast enough to get a good reading.
If it starts and runs, don't worry about it.
If it doesn't run, take the bowl off, take the main jet out, and find the TINY hole drilled into the side of the jet. I assume it is the idle jet, and if the carb dried out, it will be clogged. I use the tip of a safety pin to clean them.
(The above is assuming that the carb is the type that has a two and a half inch round bowl on the bottom with a knurled thumb screw holding it on. If it is a different carb, the same principle applies, the location and access to the parts may different. ) CZ
