About the lower side covers, my Heritage had both of them until one vibrated off onto the highway. Years later e-friend Don Sundby mailed me a replacement as an act of random kindness so I have both of them once more.
How many Heritage owners still have the failed dog leash that Yamaha thought was a security chain?
The one that was stored in the plastic holder behind the rightside lower cover and worked with the ignition key?

I still have the chain from my Turbo Seca and my XS650 key opens it. I also lost the little plastic cover under my left sidecover when taking down the freway. That really sucked, as the bike was complete in every way up til then.

Yep, chain and tool kit is missing on this one...
I still have the chain on the Venturer though.

Ordered a set of seals and a clutch for it today.

Just helped the new owner load up the 2 80 XS11's .
I love when it get's nice like this. Motorcycles sell themselves. Sold all three in 9 days and got what I was looking for them.

            Richard,

Make sure you pull the oil pan on this bike. Sooner is better than later. There is a filter screen in the sump that comes out with the pan. It is very likely that you will find it torn. I recently pulled one on a XS650SH with 6K on the clock, and it was torn. That screen will need to be repaired or replaced before you use the bike. #14 in the image.

I ended up with $1600 for the 79 Special, $1750 for the 80G and $500 for the 80SG.
The 2 - 80's were bought by a shop that's going to upgrade/mod and flip them.

Been reading about that on the other forum. I had planned on pulling it for inspection anyway as I found some small pieces of rtv material in the side filter screen. Side cases come off as soon as the parts get here for the re-seal and clutch replacement. I'll pull the starter and pan for inspection and cleaning. Starter seems to be dragging. I suspect a leaking oil seal or bad brushes. Was going to replace the clutch rods with the single long one but it seems they are out of stock at MikesXS and a bit pricey elsewhere.
