  • Xs850sg help!

I own an XS850SG. It's an in line triple with Hitachi carbs. It idles good when warmed up, but as soon as the throttle is opened a little, it runs irratically! Going down the road once warmed up and the choke closed it seems to lag a little on initial throttle opening. It pops out the exhaust on deceleration, and tends to die if the throttle is closed suddenly from upper RPMs. I'm also wondering where I can find a carb rebuild kit for it, mainly the jet o-rings. Any input would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!!!

Sounds like carbs to me. For parts, first place I would look is fellow on ebay under the name Georgefix. He has been very very helpful on the XS11 carbs for me.

Other option of what your suggesting might be the pick up coil wires, but carbs seem more likely from what your suggesting. A good thorough cleaning and review of the jetting should make the difference. Then again, the wires are pretty easy and inexpensive to repair.

Thanks, I'll look on e-bay there for parts. And The carbs have been cleaned extensively, and I did replace the coil wires.

Did you sync the carbs? Also, did you split the carb bodies? There is a center gasket on the Hitachi carbs that allows you to open the carb bodies to access the enricher circuit.

Here's one place to get rebuild kits. $24.57 ea.

Well, if it pukes out after it's warm, then the problem isn't the enricher circuit.
I have an '80 sg 850 and it also has the Hitachi carbs.I rebuilt mine. You probably already know that it is a biotch to get the jets out without destroying them. You can soak them with carb cleaner to get the o-rings soft.I just suspend the carb in cleaner with the seals above the fluid.Once soft, gently twist the jets with a pair of dikes and work them out.
Those Hitachis are a lot more finicky to get dialed in than the Mikuni's, but once they are set-up right they work great. I would fully disassemble them and make sure they are clean,Then install kits.
