  • 1982 Suzuki GS1100

Thinkin about trading in my 78 XS on this 82 GS. One owner bike, 89 years old, kept it in a heated garage all it's life. Looks and runs like new. Low miles. Is there much of a difference between the XS and the GS?

My guess is just speed... Looks to be a nice bike, my goal would be to have them both. Test drive it, ride your XS there and take it for a test drive! The differences will become aparent.

      Styling finish.....your E is better IMO........Accelleration and performance........Suzy 1100E......ride and suspension adjustability........don't know.

IIRC, the GS 1100 had 4 valves per cylinder or was '82 too early?? if it's the 4-valve version it's gotta be faster off the line than the XS.

I had a 79 GS1000. Beat the hell out of it and it never complained.
If the GS1100 is anything like it it'll take a **** kicking.

              Traded my GS1000 for my 1st XS1100, a 1981 model.
Ill never go back to a GS again.

              No comparison.

Two hour ride on the highway on the GS turns into a back breaking butt numbing painful experiance.
Went on a Ride for Sight run in Calgary. Two hours there, couple hour ride, four hours to get home after all the stops to try and get the pain to subside.

                I've had both

The GS 1100 G or K was made only two years. The performance is pretty darn close, but the XS has more grunt.

The parts are hard to get for the Suz., plus the Suzuki has a buzzy motor, the XS is smoother.

Over all I like the XS better.
If I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself..

Don't replace your XS with it because you will be disappointed in the end. However, The Susie 1K was a nice bike... Have both if you can.

                      Gs 1100 g or k

If you try to get parts for them good luck. The bike we are talking about is a shafty, 2 valve a cylinder, Now if your talking About the 1100 E,( 4 valves and cylinder and chain drive) there a many parts for them, but the motors are completely different between the two.
If I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself..

Having my cake and eating it too??? SWAMBO just might have something to say about that, especially since I'm working on putting together a 79XS in the garage right now. Rolling chassis $100, running engine & carbs $200.
