  • Intake Boots

I have a friend that wants to replace his intake boots. He has an 85 xj700(funny, I thought they only made a 750...but what do I know????)
I have a set of boots for an XS1100...will that fit???
I told him to just redo his boots with caulking(5200), but I don't know if that was the best advice.
    C'mon all...what do you think????

My understanding is the distance between the mounting bolts is difference between the two. RTV works good also. Somewhere there is a tip about sealing them up...

Caution: Im not a Guru nor claim to be, you might even want to wait for someone who really knows what their talking about to confirm before you give him your/my answer. I beleive this subject came up regarding the carb holders on a XS650 vs XS1100 and it was concluded they are differnt. So...my educated guess it the 1100's will only fit the 1100's, XS's and XJ's.

Believe the boots are double walled just like the xs11's, so unless there being done just for looks OUTSIDE cracks would'nt affect running. If bike is running, tell friend to spray some WD-40 around boots and if rpm's increase, possible boot leak or head to boot mounting vacuum leak, then friend will KNOW your an XS/XJ Guru..

            Part #'s for XS1100
            2H7-13586-00-00 JOINT, CARBURETOR
            2H7-13596-00-00 JOINT, CARBURETOR

            Part #'s for XJ 700 (4 models in 85)
            1 29R-13586-00-00 JOINT, CARBURETOR 1
            2 29R-13596-00-00 JOINT, CARBURETOR 2
            3 29R-13597-00-00 JOINT, CARB 3
            4 29R-13598-00-00 JOINT, CARB 4

The pics in the catalog give me the impression that they are smaller diameter than an XS1100 as well as other differences.

              Hi Carolyn,
back in the day there was an extra tariff on imported bikes bigger than 700ccs, made to protect Harley-Davidson from fair competition.
To bypass that, Honda started making their 'Wings stateside and several Mfrs undersized their offshore-built 750s down to 700ccs for the US market.
Your buddy's bike is one of them.
