XS750 - Opinions?

Hi guys...

Still looking for the right bike near me. I want to get an XS11, but am limited on funds and needing a daily rider pretty soon. What is the general consensus on a 79 XS750? Obviously, they don't have the power of an 1100, but do they still pack a punch (keeping in mind the only bikes I have owned have been Shadow 1100s)? Upsides? Downsides? Are any of the parts interchangeable with the 1100 (i.e. tank, seat, etc.)?

I saw this one of CL today. I am thinking it might be something to get me started of my way up to an 1100.

I have two XS850's, one with a XS750 motor in it. I paid $100 for one and
got the other in trade for some old wheels. I have probably about $400 each in the two bikes. I would not pay $900 for that one on craigslist. But maybe bikes are worth more in your neck of the woods.
As far as parts interchange with an XS11, carbs on a XS750 are BS34's but have a leaner jetting and since the 750 has three carbs and the 1100 has four ,they won't interchange. However I suppose you could use a
carb off one bikes rack and replace the others if you had too.
The seats,gas tanks,forks, side covers as well as a lot of other parts will not interchange.
You can use a 750 final drive on an 1100 and I think you can swap the rear wheels.
Maybe someone else will know more.
I agree that you can probably find a goo XS11 for that price that is in fair shape.

I Have Both

Hey Gringo,,,I have both the xs1100 and the xs750. Both are great bikes, the 1100 is better for two up and grins, the 750 is better for a single rider and around town cruising. The 750 has a unique sound and feel, being a triple, that is why I got it, being a different feel to ride. It has no problem keeping up with the 1100's unless the 1100 winds out. So, for me if you do two up riding, hands down, get the 1100 and you barely know someone is back there. If you just want an around town and highway bike, single riding, the 750 is a fine machine. The 750 has no problem going 85 plus all day long with the triples torque and lower revving powerband. BUt the 1100 will give you grins all day long as you know you can spank most any cruiser on the road today. Heck get one now and keep your eyes open for the other size. Both are just plain fun to ride and Yamaha quality to boot, easy to fix, both have great website support and parts availablility. Ride them both and it will be still hard to decide which is better,,,,,good luck, Mike in San Diego
