HELP selecting upgrade bike

Has anyone heard of ,or have any input on this bike?
2007 Hyosung 2007 Hyosung Aquila GV250 . Apparently someone she knows is selling one and wants 4K for it. 4K seems high for a 2007 "off brand" used bike?

I rode an old CB350 for years virtually maintenence free. A friend that I used to ride with back then had a XS400 that he really liked too. The old KZ400s were also a lot of fun. These bikes are all a bit dated by todays standards, but they still make great "around town" bikes, and you can usually find one on CL for a few hundred bucks.

I have heard the Hyosungs are junk. Seen a few for sale with low miles and broken valves.

Yes I saw that but I don't know if this is a "base" model that she is being offered for the 4 K. I also noticed that at one ratings site the bike was only rated by 12 users which is not a lot of input. All I know is that I ahve never heard of the brand.

Korean bikes are better quality than Chinese,but it's hard to beat Japanese for reliability.

I wouldn't pick Korean or Chinese, but that's my opinion. There is so many other better made bikes out there than a Hyosung.

That is virtually the same deal that I was talking about. I took off the exhaust, sanded and repainted it for her because it was a little rusted like that one too. Looked like new after that. It really was a fun bike the couple days I had it and had good pick up which I'm sure it had to do with the large rear belt sprocket.

I can tell you what I tell the MSF grads when they ask:

Most of you know what bikes you like to look at, but you do not know what bikes you like to ride. So I suggest buying a 3+ year old bike so that if you guess wrong you will not loose too much money on it, and one that is common as you can get unique later after you know what you like.

At our school we have the TU, but I am pretty sure that model is new this last year, so not many used ones out. Not sure if it was released in Canada or not. It is the best beginner bike I have seen since those CB125 trainers disappeared. By best, neutral ergonmics and very forgiving handling, and very good set of disk brakes.

I detest the Suzuki GZ250's as the forward control are a PITA for beginners, and they only fit about 1 in 10 riders well. We have a 250 ninja that I like to play with, and it has all the feel of the sport bike without the risk of launching into triple digit speeds in a handle of seconds. If sport bike inclined they are pretty common and seem to hold value well.

Students that have stopped by after to show us their bikes and say hi have been favorable on the rebels if they are inseamed challenged, and several have come back with the 650 V-stars and been happy with them. As I conclude I will refer back to the beginning, 3+ years old and common, it could take several tries to find a bike that "fits" them. Oh, and if they have room for storage, buy in the fall and sell in the spring, but YMMV.

And here my first bike after taking the course was Thunderstruck..my first 81 XS1100. IT was mroe than 3 years old (times ten almost) not really very common though.

Granted I rode an XS750 and two CB750s almost two decades prior to taking the course.
