  • fj carb question

So I have 85 fj1100 carbs on my 78 and pods and a high flow 4/1 , my questions are; what should the floats be set at and what are you running for main jets, my bike doesn't pull like it should over 90mph unless I downshift into 4th also I have a 750 fd

    Carbs

Clymer manual states 21.3 / 24.3 mm float height, (0.84 / 0.92 in), jets for US models are listed as 112.5 mains, 37.5 pilots. Pilot screws are supposedly preset, however 2 1/2 to 3 turns out ought to be a good starting point. If it is dying at only 90 you may need to go up 1 or 2 sizes on mains (115 / 117.5). Jet sizes will depend on how hard you want it to go. I have 84FJ11 with pods and 4/1 went up 1 size and got 110 plus, enough for me

      jets

I think I have 120 mains and 42.5 pilots, D'oh I knew I should have wrote that down somewhere, anyways the bike has plenty of adjustment on the pilot circuit , but I dont recall what the floats were set at , it seems the fj floats ride a little higher in the bowl?

        Hi Garth,
If the bikes running well otherwise and running out of puff
at 90mph, id bump up your mains to at least 125 - 130 if you have 120s in it atm..
With pods and a bassani exhaust sounds like your running lean.

Im running pods, with a fairly open 4-1 exhaust, 110 is stock im running
128 Dyno jet mains, about 7 jet sizes up.

          Jets

Pete is probably right. I put pods and free flowing pipes on a XJR 1200. Stock size was 95's, ended up with 150's. Now pulls from 40K's (24mph) to just over 200K's (124mph) in top gear.
