  • Hard bag repair

Anyone know the best/easiest method to repair hard bags? Or, in this case, a trunk? This one has a split on the bottom of it, along the front edge. Not sure of the make, but construction appears to be plastic.

I was contemplating bracing it with some metal strips, and then filling it with something... maybe body filler?

Harbor Freight, plastic welder, $40.00. You need an air compressor.
I found that my Pacifico fairing wasn't fiberglass but plastic. Had the fairing repaired and the guy said he was getting out of the business. I have more cracks now and he said he'd give me some pointers. Hope I don't totally screw it up.

Thanks Pat, will check into that. This split is actually on the bottom so the cosmetics wont be affected. I'm more concerned with stopping it from getting worse and also making it waterproof again.

I was contemplating getting some plexiglass the same size as the bottom of the trunk and fastening the trunk to it. I was thinking this would provide some structual support and hopefully stop the split from getting bigger.

Suggest the first thing to do is to drill a hole in each end of the crack toi prevent it growing any longer. If it is out of sight and not cosmetically sensitive could you not simply lay on three or four layers of fiberglass.?
