    Hi Tarzan,
They never made an XS650 Midnight Special.
Closest was my 1984 Heritage Special which came with the entire power unit blacked out, carbs and all, but with the edges of the fins polished.
No XS650 ever had the gold chrome either although other years had blacked out fenders and headlight bucket instead of chrome ones.
I suppose you could mix'n'match parts to make a pretty fair XS650 "Midnight Special" lookalike except for the gold chrome
but Yamaha never made one and the bike in the ad ain't one.

I dunno how this guy can think that's anywhere NEAR to being a MNS! It's not even close to being a FAKE one! I hate it when people misrepresent stuff just to sell it.

      1981 XS1100LH Midnight Special (Sold) - purchased 9/29/08

        Hi again Tarzan,
I shoulda said in the previous post; it looks to be an ordinary '79 XS650 Special with the side covers & grabrail missing.
'79 was the last year with the hinged seat & points ignition. As mentioned, they never made a Midnight Special XS650 but black chrome bars & black paint will bring it close if you want.
        That's a quite reasonable price for a complete XS650 with a title.
If you want it, go for it.

I have owned two xs650 specials. But had never seen a midnight so I didnt know one way or the other if one was made. But even if they did I was pretty sure that wasnt one.So I had just sent the guy a freindly email to let him know it was not and that is when he replied back about the tank and stuff.I'm not interested in the bike personally,I just wanted to let him know so he could give an accurate description.I also had told him that even though it wasnt a MNS,that it was still a probably a decent price for a special.
Some people just cant handle the truth.lol

Yeah, a local guy here listed a Standard with I think a roudn headlight as a MNS. I wrote and told him what he had, he replied with thanks for the info. Then proceeded to leave it listed on CL as a MNS for months.

I owned a 1981 XJ 650 midnight maxim. identical looks to the MNS, black with the same gold color as the MNS but rear drum brake and smaller overall. 4 cylinder shaft drive and a blast to ride.
