  • Bandit bolt-ons--advice wanted

My friend has a silverfaired Bandit1200 (’01?), stock. He’s interested in bolting on some horsepower, so I’m looking for recommendations. Is there a good slip-on/jet combo that’s best for us? I’ve been through a few Mikunis, but this is his only ride so we’re looking for a straightforward deal (like bring it up to Denny’s in August ). Any warnings?

    Thanks,
    David Browne

    Howdy David

First, be sure of the year of the bike. Up to and including year 2000, I'm pretty familiar with all the different ways to get more hp and torque. 2001 and up things are a bit different in the carb and suspension dept.

This page has info on all years Bandit jetting options (not complete, there are other mods people have done).

Check out http://members.accesstoledo.com/portpct/ and Dale Walker's site (click on Bandit 1200/600 link in navbar on left).

Depends on how much stuff your friend wants to bolt on, and what the budget is. You can get a Bandit up to 130hp plus with just bolt-ons, but that means expensive exhaust, cams, etc.

Actually, make that 210hp - see David Schuen's way cool site for the whole story on two Bandits that are really awesome, one for touring, one for the strip.

I can highly recommend the Holeshot Stage 2 setup. If he can afford the full Vortex exhaust (headers), even better.

Good luck! (hey, that will make three Bandits at Denny's - Gary sixtysix, myself, and your nameless friend...)

Bolt on HP? Can you say Mr. Turbo? About $3k though.

Thank you, Mike, that's a good link, just what I'm looking for. I don't think turbo is going on this time, but one step at a time eh? I told my friend the easiest way for him to get more hp is just stay behind my xs11.

Hey man...I have a 2001 Bandit 1200S and wanted some cheap power so I modded the stock can and added a 1"1/2 hole in the air box and 125 main jets...what a difference and / old Bandit starts much better and warms up quicker and I get better fuel mileage..oh yeah.. I drilled the advancer so to get about 5 degrees advance,,what a blast...I wouldn't believe the difference without actually seeing it up close also drilled out the A/F plugs and run them at 3 1/2 turns out FWIW
