xs400 clutch problem after plate replace

Alright not completely sure what went wrong here. My clutch in my xs400 has been slipping at high rpms so I recently purchased new friction plates and springs.

So I take the cover off, take the springs off, remove the plates, replace the friction plates with the new ones after soaking them(reused the steel plates), and replaced the springs with the new ones. I tightened the retention bolts down until they seated and replaced the cover using a new gasket. Simple right????????

Now I have no tension in my clutch cable ... nada ... nothing. What the heck am I missing here

Ok, I'll ask the simple stupid, but have to ask it question(s).

Did you make sure to reconnect the cable to the linkage and put that retainer in place so it will not come loose?

Did you go through the adjustments at the clutch and at the clutch lever? Typically, you loosen the clutch lever completely when you pull that off and will need to tighten and adjust after your work.

Like I said,, simple stupid stuff, but would not be the first one to miss it.

I did but I'm thinking maybe the clutch pushrod has been moved somehow because the actuating mechanism doesn't seem to be even touching it now. Looks like I'm pullin' the damn thing apart again tomorrow.

Never mind .....

I didn't have the clutch pressure plate lined up properly. What an idiot!!!!!

Don't feel to badly, we all have had issues with a recent repair onyl to tear into it and find we missed something on the install. Glad it was a simple fix!
