VF750 99' Magna Carb Problem

I thought I would help my brother clean his carbs since I have been through my xs's. We were doing well untill we got to the float seats. I said, "Those float seats come out". Tried to pull one out with a tool and scratched the inside. He thought it would be fine and didnt want to test for leaks... Well 83 miles later he has gas in the oil.

The seats are not replacable. Is there a way to repair the scratch (sand down)(bigger float)? Or do I need to buy him a set of cards?

Feeling so stupid...
