True...the problem with ebay is that the value of an item can be over-inflated.Since I am un-employed this item became cost prohibitive...for me..So I didnt really need it...but thought it would be nice to have...seems like I always pay more for things than I should have to...especially when alot of folks kept telling me how cheap they got theirs...so I balked..no biggie theres always someone else who'll pay the big bucks...

Yeah... no telling what the winner actually bid. Could have been sky high.

Usuallly the way to win is to place a high maximum bid so that others never find your limit...however you watch others drive your cost up so I had I high maximum bid and feltit could reach it...and then I would have paid way too much for it...

Help!!!! Does anyone out there have a lead on a 78/79 XS 1100 Speedometer.
You know the round one with the chrome bucket that registers a top speed of 160 mph......Please keep me in mind. I missed out on 3 of them because of the high bids on Ebay.............Thanks Joe

                79 speedo

I have both tach and speedo from 79 xs special. Odometer at 32,000 .They are together on cluster and I prefer to sell them complete. The speedo rubber is damaged but can be replaced easily. Otherwise they are in great shape. Idont know how much you want to spend but if this helps at all let me know.

I can send you pictures if you want.

I just won (another) speedometer on Ebay yesterday. Not NOS though.
Saw it had 1 bid of $5.00 with 18 hours to go. I bid $41.01 and won it for $41.00.
I hope I didn't out-bid someone here but I have had issues getting one for my E.

The original had the odo go bad. Got one off Ebay and the speedo part was bad (squealed loudly until the needle broke off). Ebayed another one and it never arrived (Seller posted a tracking # that showed ?delivered" but it was never on my doorstep. Neighbor kid might have taken it). I put a Cateye bicycle unit on the bike and that was nice (during the day) but that quit working too.

Hope all goes well with this one.

You have to be diligent about scanning e-bay for this stuff at a good price. I scored a full insturement pod off a 79 standard for $20!!!! I was shocked when I won. The tach and 160 speedo both work great, even the fuel gauge. I once paid $50 for a wreck of a XS11 just to get the tkat off of it. Sold the rest of the parts that were good and made my money back pretty quick.
                    When a 10 isn't enough, get a 11. 80g Hardbagger
