More likely a 750 or 650 Maxim. They are virtually identical.
inline 4, shaft drive, YICS. Great bikes. Plenty of horsepower for solo riding /touring. I ride mine everywhere and keep up with the 11's

I owned one for most of this riding season, sold it shortly after getting the xs11. The 85 Maxim 700 is a great bike, but it has a few things you should know about.
From 84 to 85, there was a lot of changes made to the XJ series. And in 86, it was the last year they made that style as well. So parts for that bike can be difficult to find. Personally the 85xj700 is pretty comfortable (I'm 6 feet tall, 200lbs) but can be a little cramped on long trips. Highway pegs are a must!
If you are unlucky enough as I was to find one with an aftermarket exhaust on it, make sure it's a name brand one (MAC, etc) because otherwise you are going to get horrible gas mileage. Mine got 33 miles to the gallon. That was after tweaking it as much as humanly possible.
There is a site (xjbikes.com) that is devoted much like this one, except to the XJ series of bikes and they are very welcoming and knowledgeable. They were a great resource for getting my xj up and running.
If the price is right, I'd say go for it. I'd still have mine if I could have gotten the gas mileage higher, but finding the stock exhaust was close to impossible.2007 FJR1300A
