    Model Identification

Hello everyone, I am trying to identify an XS1100 that was manufactured 5\80. The VIN is 4H7-008467. It has a single front disc brake and a drum in the rear. The engine side covers are much shorter and there appears to be an alternator under the carbs. Any help would be appreciated.

That is NOT an XS1100. It may be a "put together" of parts, or it may be a different model.
ALL xs1100 models, including the XJ, had dual front and single rear disk brakes. The rear drum sounds like the "smaller" maxum (sp) motorcycle. It is probably a 900 or 750 cc bike.
IF you look at the YAMAHA USA web site, you should be able to find the model with the vin number.

        Hi SVCtech,

According to the model listings in this site, 4H7 is the model code for an XJ650C. Piggy-back alternator was a feature of this model...... never fitted to the XS11. None of the XS11 range ever came with a drum brake or a single disc.

Nice little bike, but not an XS11.

EDIT...... D@mn, you lot type quick!
If it ain't broke, modify it!

Not easy...but possible....the scar on my right arm (left by the hot muffler) is almost gone now.

Ernie you are not supposed to pick them up by the muffler. Man no wonder you found it hard

Carl.....I am well aware of the fact that I am not supposed to pick a bike up by its muffler. However, in this instance the bike was lying in a somehat awkward position and in my usual clumsy manner my arm slipped and ran across the muffler.

I work in many different environments with many obstacles and pride myself on the fact that I rarely injure myself....until I am walking out of my office and trip going UP the stairs (twice)

Ernie I got such a kick out of the vision I had of you tryin to pick it up by the muffler. But I never really thought that you did that really well no no not really. They sure do burn though don't they I backed into Kathi's headers with my graceful movements and it seems to take a bit longer for my back bacon to send the message that it is well cooked. I damn near knocked them both over.
