    2006 883 sportster

My friend has a harley and it is pumping a lot of oil out the crankcase vent . If you ride behind her you get oil on you . It has had this prob since new . Numerous visits to the dealer she got it from has produced many theories and repair attempts but no luck .
    Anyone have an idea ?

I would think hers rings are worn. Maybe a compression test will tell the tale.

      A Harley leaking oil???

I asked my friend with a sportster, "does yours leak oil?"

His reply, "Does a fat baby sweat in the summer?"

"Does a one legged duck swim in a circle?"

"Does a cat have a rectum?"

      Of course!!!

It sounds like it has to much oil in it.

That was my first thought but surely even though a lot of the dealers suck they would know how to check the oil.

Many motors have a baffle inside the crankcase where the breather hose comes out of. Maybe it's missing?

The baffle is to stop oil from being sprayed into the hose. Sometimes it's just a metal frame with baffles in it, sometimes it's a box with a sponge (filter) in it.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

Try this link seems pretty common.

And the easiest solution, Don't ride behind her.

I thought friends don't let friends ride Harley's???

I've read that softails with the Twin Cam can be run towards the lower side of the acceptable oil level, and that sometimes can help the situation. Different motor, kind of, though.
