    1981 Hondamatic

A security guard at my work has one of these that he's thinking of selling. It appears to run nice (I didn't test ride it, but it started right up and the engine sounded nice). He just had the engine cleaned up and re-painted and had a new master cylinder with a steel-lined brake line installed. Looks like an aftermarket exhaust. I've been looking for a bike for SWMBO as a surprise birthday present. I'm not sure what to offer. Any opinions?

It seems there are a lot of those here, CM400A. They sell on Craigslist from $750 - $1,500.

My dad has had a few of these and he liked it a lot. Im pretty sure the one he had was the 700 and it had reverse XD But for someone who isn't used to using a clutch this would be a great bike. My brothers friend also has a 400 and it goes pretty good for a twin cyl.

        I've worked on a few.
The owners seemed to like them.

Yeah, I think he's keeping it. He's just got his MC certification and is in motorcycle love. It's so adorable. He asks me questions like, "What do you do about night riding?" and I say, "I don't if I don't have to."

Someone loved his motorcycle. Whoever did replaced the seat with a gunfighter and a back rest. I think he's going to baby it for awhile.

I bought one on ebay for my girlfriend and another at a Honda shop, they were both basket cases...built one good one outta the 2.

They are slow but will do 70 on the highway no problem.

Keep the chain tensioner adjusted...the one I got at the dealer had been run with a loose cam chain which chewed through the tunnel wall and destroyed a set of cylinders.
