  • chain replacement on ltd kz 550...

hey there folks..i know the forum is not used 2 chain questions, but gotta ask 2 find out.....what is the best way 2 measure a new chain for the above mentioned bike....even the manuals are very fuzzy to get a correct measurement........used 2 do this on the dirt bikes, but this, i know, is totally different.....was thinking about adjusting the rear wheel 1/3 out from front position....using chalk line to get a reading on the tops of the teeth then cutting the chain 1 link short of the measurement for expansion...not sure if this is right, but if ya all have the knowledge, please let me know what ya think....thanx in advance for the advice...ross

Go talk to a guy in a M/C boneyard. he may have one lying around you can look at, or perhaps, he has a good one you can get. I bought a chain and rear sprocket for my kz400 several years back out of a boneyard. served me for a few years, I think I paid 20 bucks for both, they are due for replacement again, but I got no complaints. have a nice day and ride safe
