All of the 16 valve fours in this series had valve burning problems. It was worse on the intakes where oil leakage from the valve guide seals would cause carbon build up that would keep the intakes open then they would burn.
These bikes also have weak ignition modules that are no longer available.
I did a head job on one of these at the same time as a complete strip on a Z1 racer. There were more parts in the head of the Honka than in the entire Kwak motor..... including the gearbox!
Nice bikes to ride (Fast!).... but terrible to fix..... Poor quality castings, horribly complex, and prone to sudden, unexpected failure.
cam- chains (two of 'em!) and tensioners are poor, and the carbs are odd....even compared to the XS!
If it is running well, buy it, drive it, and keep up to date with the servicing..... you will like it.
If it needs repair (especially to the engine or carbs!) just walk away; a world of pain awaits!
I think I'll pass than. Bike was complete but completely disassembled except for the engine and the carbs. Arizona machine so no rust but all the rubber was in rough shape plus I would have had to ship it 2000 miles. Thanks for the advice, you have made my wife a happy woman
