  • xs650 lack of power

I bought a XS650 for a dollar off my brother due to him needing a helmet i got at a lawn sale for a buck. Ok so down to buisness, The motor runs fine and revs up fine while sitting still so i was puttin around the lawn and it would kick loose easy so i grabbed my helmet and took it down the road and u have to be idleing in any gear or when u snap onto it it just breaks up and doesn't gain at all so u need to **** up and just barley feather the throttle to gain any speed. Could this be as simple as a tuneup like plugs and filters?

    Hi Bamper,
what year XS650? "the usual suspects" for an XS650 acting up is the carbs need dismantling & cleaning. Just like an XS11.
While you have the carbs off do a compression test. 150psi each side is best. 100psi and it'll still run OK.

        "your missing 2 cylinders"
        Hi Scott,
that's better than having 2 cylinders that are missing, eh?
My XS650 may have only 2 cylinders instead of the 4 on my XS11 but while the engine is 449cc smaller the bike is 80lbs lighter. So it'll only go 100mph instead of 130 but at least it's engine turns the right way round instead of backwards.
