  • Opinions on an 83 Honda CB1000

I was talking to a guy on the phone tonight who has an XS750 to give away ... been in a fire and YOU ALREADY KNOW what I want off of it since all of my bikes are XS11s ... but having said all that ....

He also has a very low mileage CB1000 he wants to sell ... pristine according to him ... you know the one with the 10 speed tranny? .... this thing weighs in at over 1000lbs NAKED .... but stats are impressive otherwise

There are none on Craigslist and only a couple on Ebay ... but probably not comparable ... who has an idea on the value, desirability, repairability, ... any info at all to share about this bike. I must say that there is a nice line to the bike .... what say ye all?

I think it's a good looking bike, heavy, solid. The dual-tranny thing is interesting, but I wonder how much practical use it really is with a big 1000 torque-y well-tuned motor? . I really like the dual megaphone exhaust...There was one parked outside the local bike dealer a few months ago and in good shape and I thought.. "OK. Interesting. Like my SF better..."
If someone was offering a really good deal on it, I might think hard. Style-wise I think the XS1100 special, in the black, has it beat, but the bike seems to have its own core group of devotees with the same rabid devotion to their ride as the XS-ives.

Like it. Wouldn't say "No", if someone offered me one cheap.Would be more likely to sink extra dollars into my own XS1100 given a choice with my discretionary Bike-dollars..

      Thx ...

Good input .... Honda is noted for good quality in everything they make ... saw a beautiful, partially restored CBX yesterday .... had no tank or seat on it but it really looked cool too .... and true, G, I love my XSs for sure .... was only thinkin' bout this CB from the standpoint of a quick flip ...

        CB1000

I had a CB900 custom for 10 yrs it had teh dual range tranny it was great in town i would run it in low range and on Hiway then i would shift up and it would fly. the CB1000 is a fun ride nd it pulls liek a freight train

          I can't see it weighing 1,000lbs!

The '82 CB900C is 260kgs or about 575lbs, exactly the same as the '85 Shadow 1100. Even with full tour package it can't be much over 300kg (660lbs)

My XS1100G is 310Kgs (680lbs) with the full Venture set.

By comparison an '05 Royal Star Tour Deluxe is 360kgs (792lbs) and the 2008 FLHTCU Electra Glide Ultra-Classic is 390kgs (858lbs).

I know this because we went out and weighed them all last week!
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

Glad you said that about the weight, Craz

because it surely doesn't make sense, huh? Too heavy. I saw a spec sheet somewhere that I can't find now .... that's where I got that number on the weight. Was probably the gross weight loaded with rider, passernger and gear or something, .... nice bike though ....saw it yesterday. These damn vintage Honda owners are pretty proud of their bikes ... this guy wants 3K US. Wish our XS11s would be worth a little more sometimes, eh .... but then they wouldn't be so cheap to fix up, would they?

Your right. The actual weight, with 1/2 tank of gas, is 610lbs, but the GVWR is 1095lbs.

I always really liked the Blue on blue CB900 Custom with full Hondaline tour gear.

My dad has a cb900 custom with the dual range tranny and it runs like a top. Only has 35k miles on it but its a nice running bike. He has 4-2 mac turnouts and pods but has to be jetted, only runs good half choked. But he's selling it now. Also my dads 900 he thought weighted 900 somthing pounds but on a spec sheet it only says like 650 or so, but if u lift it it feels a hell of a lot heavier then my SF. Also checkthe center of gravity because on his 900 it was really high and that made it seem heavy, aslo it tipped over quite easy. He got about 40mpg but never took it out of low range much.
