  • Opinions on the '82 XJ750 Seca?

    Hi,
Have the option of buying one of these with15K miles today for $600.00 Going to see it in about and hour. Been sitting in a shed for 7 years but the cosmetics look good in the photos. Guy says engine is not seized but carbs are probably gummed up (big duhh!) and it won't start. We'll jump it to at least turn the engine.
Time is of the escence here
    Thanks.

IIRC, it was a shaft drive smaller version of the 1100. I had an '83 650 turbo version, and liked it a LOT. I think the 750 will run for a long time, as the basic design is the same as the 1100. I do NOT know about parts availability though..

Thanks for the prompt reply Ray

We'll the guy did a lot of Photoshop work on those pictures!!!
All the aluminum was very corroded and pitted. He tried to paint the plastics but the color didn't match, The tank was severly rusted and dripping with moisture. Even the carbutator chrome tops were rusted!! Seat had a rip and one side cover had the main post broken off.
The engine did turn when we jumped it with his car, but at that point is was more to satisfy his curiosity more than mine.
Besides, I didn't like handlebar position in realtion to how you sit.
Interesting front brake setup though.... apparently the mc is activated via a cable from the lever. In other words, there's a cable running from the front brake perch to somewhere under the headlight, where I assume the mc is located, and then hoses down to the calipers. Never seen that "hybrid" combo before.
Just as a formality I offered him $300 because I didn't want to do that much work, but he wouldn't budge from $500.
So, I had a very happy ride home (90mi 1 way) on my 80G with the, new to me, 750 rear end. Mileage is awesome, total cost $15!!!
