  • GS 850 and GS1100 Suzuki's

I have a 1982 GS1100G and a GS 850 1979. Does any one here have any info on these bikes? What I mean by this,,are they worth the work to get them running? Since I've got back into the XS 1100 Yamaha again, I have lost interest in them. Is it worth fixing them or should I ebay the parts out?

Maybe some one out there might be interested in both bikes for a swap for another XS1100,,, or is that to much to ask..lol
If I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself..

OK guys I know that I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer. All I want to know is if the Suzukes are worth it or should I part them out? He#l if you are close I will probably give them too you. By the way both are shaft drive.
I can say that the GS1100 can do better I think In the 1/4, but the XS can smoke the Suzuke in a roll on at any time. The Suzuki is still like a two stroke, all out with no interuptions like traffic, slow Harelys ect... she will get there real fast. But for the practical, they don't measure up like the mighty XS, which I still get a thrill out of and still get bugs in my teeth.

The GS can be a good bike. You can bore it out and make a monster out of that engine.

          Hi SU,

Is ANY old bike worth the effort to get running?.... only you can answer that!

Both were good bikes in their day, and in their class, so if you want to fix 'em and use 'em they will be fine. However, old bikes cost money, and sadly, almost anything is worth more money in lots of little bits on e-bay than it would ever be when polished and ready to ride.

Fix it if you want to ride it; don't delude yourself about making money by fixing 'em up.

Ask that question the www.thegsresources.com and see the responses you get. A lot of the guys there would give their left one for a 1100G. The 850 is just about the most indestructible motor ever built. I'd wager there's a member or two there who would be interested in one or both.

                  Hi All,

I may be converting to the dark side and buying (having another bike on the side) a Suzuki GS1000G. Anyone know of a good informative Website like this.

Does the 1100 have 8 or 16 valve heads? if its the 16 valve, look for the letters TSCC (twin swirl combustion chamber) if so, it might be well worth fixing it up. as I understand it, the TSCC heads were the predecessors to the modern sport bike heads. at any rate, you might find a Suzuki fan that would be interested in buying them. a friend of mine has a "drag bike" he tinkers around with; it has a Suzuki 1100 engine with the TSCC heads. come to think of it, so does his busa. anyway, I hate to see any bike parted out and scrapped, just my humble opinion, but if their fixable, I would fix them. then either sell them, or ride them on days when you want a change of pace. Have a nice day and ride safe

1100G is an 8 valve motor with shaft final drive.

The cams off the GS1100G are highly coveted by the Gs1100E and 1150. Sorry for not getting back to you Lorax.

These were great bikes but had some charging system issues that can be sorted out.

I'm in the area if you'd like to make a local phone call for some help.
