  • xj 700 maxim

hello all, now working on a 85 xj 700 maxim. i just got it and had sat for sometime with fuel in it, have kreemed the tank (rusted really bad) cleaned the carbs, replaced fuel lines, air filter, installed fuel filter, new plugs, oil & filter.

It will start but i have to either prime with eather or fuel in air intake. once the it starts i have to keep the throttle at least half open and the chock on. then it bogs down and dies and have to go through this process again. will not idol or stay running.

    any ideas??

The tank isn't the only thing with rust in it. You have to pull the carbs and clean them thoroughly. You might try the Seafoam (insert other favourite fuel system cleaner here) in the gas and run a few tanks through it, but by the sound of it, your pilot jets are plugged.
