  • Front master cyl. help on my Honda ST1100!

I had entered on on I believe Member's Lounge about going to Sturgis and having a front brake issue on my ST1100(92 non ABS) I am still in Littleton and am not going up there. I took the bike to a Honda Dealer here and cordually with a back log, and being from out of town took it in and put a new master cyl. kit in the front. Calipers were slow releasing, but rode it back to my girlfriends some 5miles. Next day, with a couple front brake applications they were dragging enough that I released them by opening and closing bleeders. Took it back and they said I needed a new master cyl. Even as accomodating as they were, seems everyone today are just 'parts changers'. There 'rebuild' was just replacing piston and internals that are in a kit from Honda. My question is, visually these cyl. seem to all function on a same principle, even the same as our XS's. If I were to remove the cover,(minimal tools with me), is there a quick easy solution to remedy the problem till I get home(250miles)? The problem is serious enough that I can not and will not use the front brake, which is not a good option safety wise. Would it have a spoonge hole like our XS's, and is there a possible orfice restriction that I could temporarily remedy till I get home, at which time I would remove master cyl. and clean, check and blow out all orfices and reassemble. While full and on bike now, would a straightened paper clip be of some help to resolve this issue untill I get home? ANY and all input here would appreciated as I would like to keep the shiny side up. Also, if any of you fellow XS'ers have a possible 'quickfix', please call my Verizon cell at 970-640-7221. Or if somewhere close to C-470 and Wadsworth here in Littleton, give me a shout with some help. Thanks, Brant.

    hello there ... I have an ST11 ...

on your non-ABS the brakes are indeed much like as XS, other than more pistons and perhaps a bit more routing ... but the principles are the same .... flush all fluids ... replace pads ... test !

if this does not fix things then a rebuild or new hoses may be needed ... good luck and let us know how it goes, eh ?
