  • Dual Throttle cable problems

I have an XT 500 with a single with a dual cable set up. I took the carb off to clean it up. Now when I try to get the cables back on, as soon as I set both of the cable adjusters on the carb side into the retainers, the throttle stops rolling back to idle freely. I did not remove the entire cable set up, only disconnected the carb end.

I did back the adjusters at the grip end in some so I could remove the carb ends. I can't figure out the physics here, there is no apparent binding when the cable is in place. If let one side out of the bracket just a little, the throttle frees up, even though it appears like it is near binding.

Anyone know of a procedure to get a dual throttle cable set up adjusted correctly?

    "You slacker, Papa!"

Without being there to see.... The usual cause is not enough slack in the cable. You need free play at the throttle grip. You may have, when readjusting the cable, made it too tight.
    "Cut me some slack, Pal."
And remember... even when you get enough slack in there for it to work properly, there may still not be enough. If you turn the handlebars to the right and the engine revs, you're still too tight.
