  • Gl1100 shifting problems

    Hi guys,
I just sold my goldwing last week. It was either the wing or my maxim I never had any problems with shifting since I had the bike. For about 2000 miles. I changed the oil and filter right before I sold it. I'm using Spectro 20w50. All that to ask if I absent-mindedly didn't add enough oil would it show up as a shifting problem? (I was thinking it might be a clutch slippage problem) The simple thing of course is draining the oil and making sure the right amount goes back in. Any insight appreciated.

    Hey Kevin,

What kind of shifting problem is it having?? Is it hard to shift from gear to gear, or hard to shift either up or down gears?

Shifting problems can be clutch adjustment, shift forks, shift pawl adjustment, return spring, etc.!?

ALso, you said you sold the GL, so I'm assuming the new owner is the one having problems with shifting, and you're trying to find out a possible solution to keep the bike sold!?

I'm having trouble shifting into gears. Mainly upper gears. I couldn't get it into 5th on the way over to where I put it up for sale, but just brushed it off as I didn't put enough force into shifting. Never had any trouble at all before the oil change.
And Yes, I'm trying to keep the bike sold. I told the guy not to change the title until we (he) was satisfied, otherwise I'd give him his money back. Golden Rule#1
      Thanks for the reply!

So, does it have a wet or a dry clutch? Not being able to shift usually means the clutch is not disengaging. Do you have a manual? If so do the complete procedure for adjusting the clutch first.

Second thought, probably hydraulic, bleed the clutch system and make sure the fluid is at proper level.
